Several hundred supporters attended the 7th Annual IMHO Convention in Boston on April 30th & May 1st, which featured many prominent mental health & physical rehab specialists, as well as academic and nonprofit professionals.

IMHO's top priorities for 2010 are to improve and expand mental health services, and to provide comprehensive rehabilitation to amputees and disabled persons. The organization has been supporting efforts in these areas of need since Fall 2009 and is scaling up support.

Very exciting news out of Jaffna: the Heart Treatment Complex at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital officially opened on February 9th, thanks to a collaborative effort between CIDA, IMHO, and UNDP. This was a long overdue, major improvement to cardiac care and treatment in the Northeast.

On January 12, 2010, the impoverished Caribbean nation of Haiti was devastated by a massive 7.0 earthquake, causing immense destruction and suffering. IMHO donated $5,000 to Partners in Health to help respond to this crisis as it continues to unfold and is currently collecting names and information of those who want to volunteer directly. IMHO is proud to announce it has been admitted as a member of InterAction, the largest coalition of U.S.-based international nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) focused on the world’s poor and most vulnerable people, joining over 180 other NGOs.

IMHO supported the World Mental Health Day celebrations in Kalmunai on October 31, 2009, in which more than 500 patients and their family members participated. The celebrations consisted of morning programmes and afternoon lunch with refreshments.
