Outpatient Cancer Early Detection Center at Jaffna Teaching Hospital and Cancer Awareness Program

The management of Cancer patients has been largely inpatient Hospital-based care. With the recent advances in the understanding of the disease and improvements in supportive care, patients are increasingly being managed in the outpatient setting. This significantly cuts down the waiting time to get the care prevents unnecessary admissions and optimizes the use of inpatient resources. With this in mind under the leadership of Dr. Thanenthran, an Oncology Surgeon at Jaffna Teaching Hospital and funded by the IMHO USA for the four-nursing staff salary, an outpatient Cancer Early Detection Center has been opened and is fully functional. The energetic dedicated staff have also started having Cancer awareness programs in the province.
