It’s wonderful to hear about the opening of the six-bed Regional Thalassemia center at the Divisional Hospital in Arayampathy, Eastern Province, on September 27th, 2024, supported by IMHO USA. This initiative represents a significant step in improving healthcare services for individuals affected by thalassemia in the region. The center’s commitment to providing high-quality care, including regular blood transfusions, iron chelation therapy, and counselling services, will greatly benefit patients by improving their quality of life and managing the condition. The future plans to introduce a screening program to identify carriers and patients are crucial in the fight against thalassemia. Additionally, registering for stem cell transplantation offers hope for a potential cure, which is incredibly promising for those living with Thalassemia.
