Mark And Donna Penney Inspired To Provide A Livelihood For Poverty Stricken Families In The North And East Of Sri Lanka

Following a visit to the North and East of Sri Lanka in the summer of 2016, we were struck by two things in particular – how desperately poor innocent victims of the civil war still are, and how dependent they are on the life changing work of charities like IMHO and Assist RR.

Between them, IMHO and Assist RR continue to provide extraordinary support in education, healthcare and livelihood projects in war torn areas.

Their latest joint venture - to provide funds to buy fishing boats, engines and nets - will transform the lives of very many families, and we would like to help them raise as much money as possible to do so.

A boat, engine and fishing nets costs approximately $3800 (approx £2800). For every $1900 (50%) raised by Assist RR and IMHO, the Sri Lankan Ministry of Resettlement will match this with a soft loan for the remaining 50%.

As each boat will be shared by two families, every $950 donated to IMHO and Assist RR will make a huge difference.

Every $950 (£700) raised - provides a family with an indefinite and decent income

Every $1900 (£1400) raised - provides a complete livelihood solution for two families

Our ambitious goal is to raise enough sponsorship to help at least 60 families (by funding 30 boats), before we complete our sponsored challenge on August 25th 2018 – a 55 KM walk from Eastbourne to Hove, along the south coast of England.

Following the generous support of attendees at the IMHO Annual Convention in Columbus, Ohio in late May we got off to a fantastic start. A sari auction on the Sunday night raised $19,000 – which will provide 20 families with a livelihood. Thank you so much to all those who got involved for your life changing contributions!

We now hope to raise funds for a further 10 boats through the IMHO/needs USA pages & 10 boats through our My Donate UK pages – links below.

No donation is too big or too small. We hope to raise those funds from friends, family and Tamil diaspora all over the world, to help as many families as possible out of poverty. Without your support, they may never get back on their feet.

Beyond the US and the UK, IMHO and Assist RR have previously had very generous support from Tamil diaspora in Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, continental Europe and elsewhere and we hope that they will again support this life-changing livelihood appeal.

 Name a boat!

If any individual donor, group of donors, family, organisation, company or community would like to fund a boat in full, ($1900 or £1400) you may choose a name and/or logo for the boat and we will send you photographs of the named boat being handed over to families whose lives you will transform.

We are committed to completing the 55km sponsored walk in one day to raise funds. With your support, we are very willing to experience short term pain... for long term gain!

 Thank you,

 Mark & Donna
