Leadership Residential Workshop held on 22nd to 25th May 2023 at PICTEC Centre

Leadership Residential Workshop held on 22nd to 25th May 2023 at PICTEC Centre, Vavuniya. 34 youths from Mannar District participated in this Residential four days’ workshop. The Ministry of Education, Cultural, Sports and Youth Affairs Conducted this with IMHO-USA and Vision Global Empowering. Mr. S. Krishnakumar, Country Director, IMHO-USA moderate the workshop and Mrs. Abiramy Parthipan, DDE, MOE, NP, Miss. Sivakumary, Chief Accountant, MOE, NP participated in this workshop.

Fundraising appeal for nutritional supplements for the school children.

As Sri Lanka descends further into its worst economic and political crisis in 70 years it is children who are suffering the most. (Forbes 07/07/2022). Nearly half of all the children in Sri Lanka require some form of humanitarian assistance, according to UNICEF’s appeal for support. Even before the current crisis, Sri Lanka had the world’s seventh highest child malnutrition rates and was second in South Asia for child wasting under the age 5. Two in five babies were not being fed the minimum acceptable diet.

IMHO USA with the Ratnam Foundation (UK) and Thenmaradchi Foundation (Canada).

IMHO USA with the Ratnam Foundation (UK) and Thenmaradchi Foundation (Canada) have provided 10 schools in Thenmaradchi with Smart Boards and have trained 30 zonal staff on Smart Board education. April 19th 2022.

Donation of water supply system.

Water is life, and clean drinking water means health and water is critical for sanitation projects. Donation of water supply system by Mrs. Navamalar Prakashpalan to Ireby Tamil Vidyalayam at Norwood in memory of her beloved husband Mr. Muruganandan Prakashpalan. Showing their gratitude, the students had a prayer meeting and planted trees in memory of Mr. Prakashpalan. Implemented by IMHO USA.

Higher Education Scholarship to Under-Privileged Students.

  • Awarded scholarship for 133 students (Rs. 2,500/month) to cover undergraduate tuition plus travel allowances
  • Project sponsored by Nadarajah Foundation.
  • Total cost of this program – $21,847.

Iniya Vazhvu Illam – Home for disabled children.

  • Supports 56 vision or hearing impaired children, age between 5 to 22 years.
  • This center located in Puthukkuddiyirupu, Mullativy District, Northern Province and is in operation since 1997.
  • Requested computer, braille machine, steel cupboard and iron safe at the total cost of $3,097.
  • IMHO fund all instruments except the braille machines.

Donating Smart Class Room Boards to Schools.

A Smart Class room was donated to Gartmore Tamil Maha Vidyalayam on the 30th of Nov. 2020. This is an IMHO USA and Ratnam Foundation’s Project.

Regional English Supporting Center Funded by IMHO USA.

  • Regional English Supporting Center funded by IMHO USA, trained 400 Teachers and provided hand books and CDs on ABOE (Activity Based Oral English Program) program for grade 1 and 2.

    Mullaithivu Zonal Director received the ABOE Books from Mr. I. Ilankovan, Secretary Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports on 03/05/21 at a function held in Mullaitivu, 100 books were distributed and 6480 students will benefit from it. Mr. S. Krishnakumar CD, IMHO Lanka, took part in the handing over of the books at Kilinochchi Zonal Director’s office.

IMHO USA Donated Desktop Computers.

IMHO USA Donated Desktop Computers and other much needed items to Iniya Valvu Illam, a home for children with visual and hearing impairment in Puthukkudiyiruppu on the 12th of Oct. 2020.

Drinking Water Supply to schools in Annandale and Dunkeld in Maskeliya.

An IMHO USA project at a cost of $5500 funded entirely by Dr. and Mrs. Murugaiah of Boston, Mass, providing water supply to two schools in Annandale and Dunkeld, Maskeliya. Last year several students from these schools did extremely well in the 5th grade scholarship examination.

Training of English teachers on Digitalized English Curriculum from grade 1 to O/L.

On the 27th of August, English teachers from 19 schools from Maskeliya Division 3 received training on Digitalised English curriculum from grade 1 to O/L. This is a joint project by IMHO and OPEnE( Organization of People for Engagement and Enterprise)
Our sincere thanks to Mr Raga Alphonsus and Ms Eugenia Zachanowicz who is the curriculum developer and ESL teacher trainer. They gave the free training and free download of the syllabus. August 2020.

The Preschool in Saverikulam was badly damaged by the recent cyclone.

The Preschool in Saverikulam was badly damaged by the recent cyclone. When Ahilan Arulanantham JD and Dr. Karunyan Arulanantham visited recently, snakes were inhabiting the building and the children ran out when the snakes came in. The School was rebuilt by IMHO USA and is functional.

Preschool Teachers Training program

Arranged by Mr. Krishnakumar, Director of IMHO SL, the Project Coordinator of IMHO USA, met via Zoom with the participants of Preschool Teachers Training Program, 35 in number (22 from Manthai West and 11 from Hatton area). In addition to profoundly thanking the donors of IMHO, who made it possible the teachers opined the usefulness and practicality of the training and went on to express the prevailing situations where the students using open spaces for toilet and reaching out to neighboring homes for absolution purposes and bringing drinking water from home in unhygienic containers.
