To get away from poverty

To get away from poverty, you need several things at the same time: school, health, and infrastructure. Happugasthana Pre School building Opening ceremony, the building was renovated by IMHO USA. July 17th 2022.

Financial Support to deserving students by Nadarajah Foundation.

 

Nadarajah Foundation established by Mr. Siva Nadarajah in loving memory of his father, added 33 students to its program in 2021. A total of 101 students receive monthly support of Rs. 2000 – Rs.2500 based on their needs to complete High School Education. Education, when delivered properly, can benefit a lot of people and make productive citizens out of those otherwise given no hope.

Encouraging families to have their own home garden to grow vegetables.

 

An example of sustainable microeconomy. IMHO USA gave money for seeds and agricultural equipment and some training to the housewives of Maskeliya area. Now the produce from their successful gardening is being sold to the cooperative store, started by the women themselves with little seed money from IMHO USA.

Community Empowerment: Rebuilding Parankiyamadu village.

  • Located in Valaichenai in the Eastern Province.
  • Resettle 155 families returning from refugee camp – 122 fishing families are now working as laborers because of lack of fishing equipment.
  • CHRF, UK is building 35 wells in this village.
  • Need to build 44 houses ($1,630/house) and fishing equipment (total cost $ 71,720).
  • Need to built 43 Toilets ($271/toilet) – total cost $ 11,653.
  • Need to purchase 6 boats to support 30 families ($ 3,260/boat) and 10 nets to support 5 families (total cost $ 19,560).

Donation of Running Water Supply system to Dunkled Tamil Maha Vidyalayam Dickoya, Funded by Mrs. and Dr. Murugaiah of Boston, Mass and implemented by IMHO USA.

Activity Based Oral English Training Program.

Regional English Supporting Center funded by IMHO USA, trained 400 Teachers and provided hand books and CDs on ABOE (Activity Based Oral English Program) program for grade 1 and 2.

Mullaithivu Zonal Director received the ABOE Books from Mr. I. Ilankovan, Secretary Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports on 03/05/21 at a function held in Mullaithivu, 100 books were distributed and 6480 students will benefit from it. Mr. S. Krishnakumar CD, IMHO Lanka, took part in the handing over of the books at Kilinochchi Zonal Director’s office.

Working with Ratnam Foundation (UK), IMHO USA provided 10 smart boards.

Working with Ratnam Foundation (UK), IMHO USA provided 10 smart boards for schools in Trinco, Kandalai and Muthur Districts at a cost of $9000. School Principals and teachers were trained in the use of the smart boards in our model school in Mullaitivu. Feb. 2021

Thousands of Sri Lankans, mostly from rural areas in the Northern and Eastern region of Sri Lanka.

Thousands of Sri Lankans, mostly from rural areas in the Northern and Eastern region of Sri Lanka, who were already struggling to survive, were adversely impacted by the inclement weather caused by the Cyclone Burevi last year and the adverse weather conditions that persisted afterwards. Many lost livelihoods, homes and even family members. Our appeal for help towards these disadvantaged communities was graciously answered by the International Medical Health Organisation (USA). IMHO USA. Thanks to their kind support, we were able to provide 225 families from rural areas in the North and East of Sri Lanka with essential grocery supplies and a much requested mosquito net. The distributions took place in Sittandy, Murukandy, Mathagal, Aalady-Uduvil and Kodikamam, with some of the items home delivered due to families being under home quarantine.
