Team Solihull completed a grueling 50 KM (a total of 1,125 KM walked) to raise funds for the great needs in the North, East and the Upcountry of Sri Lanka. Inspecting the Home Gardening Project in Maskeliya

Mr. Murali Ramalingam Treasurer of IMHO USA and Mr. M. P. Chandrasekharan Plantation Education coordinator IMHO, inspecting the Home Gardening Project in Maskeliya. At the moment IMHO is supporting 2500 families in this project. Started in 2021 by providing basic farming equipment and seeds at a cost of US$7.50 per family In these times of great financial difficulty families in addition to harvesting vegetables for their own consumption, are able to generate around US$25.00 per household / month. Dec. 12th 2022

Much Needed Sanitation Facilities to The Plantation Sector.

75 toilets were handed over to the beneficiaries in the Maskeliya and Norton areas in the plantation sector. Mr. Sivakumaran (IMHO USA AC member) and Mr. Shamil Peiris (Kandy RC Vice President) spearheaded this important joint project. Mr. Vaitheeswaran (Kandy RC President) and Ms. Ahalya Rajan (Kandy RC Vice President) also participated in this function. Another 200 toilets will be constructed through this project. March 16th 2023.

Roofing sheets for leaking roofs of homes in Brownlow Estates in Maskeliya. Kindly note where the families collect their drinking water from. An IMHO USA program benefitting 40 families costing $3700. July 10th 2022.

Community Empowerment: Re-Building Kancharamoddai.

  • Border village in Nedunkerni District in Northern Province.
  • Support resettlement of 32 – 39 displaced families returning from Refugee camp.
  • Built 27 toilets. 
  • Helping with establishing electricity supply connections to the village.

Trauma Prevention Program & Trauma Registry.

  • Awareness program to prevent road-accident starting 2019 – out reach to general public, school children, and auto drivers.
  • IMHO fund development of Software and 5 laptop computers for Data collection and analysis of road-accidents, trauma injury and suicides.
  • Currently, data are collection at the Hospitals at Jaffna, Thellipallai, Point Pedro, Chavakachcheri, Kilinochchi and Vavuniya from the Northern Province.

Community Empowerment: Rebuilding Parankiyamadu village.

  • Located in Valaichenai in the Eastern Province.
  • Resettle 155 families returning from refugee camp – 122 fishing families are now working as laborers because of lack of fishing equipment.
  • CHRF, UK is building 35 wells in this village.
  • Need to build 44 houses ($1,630/house) and fishing equipment (total cost $ 71,720).
  • Need to built 43 Toilets ($271/toilet) – total cost $ 11,653.
  • Need to purchase 6 boats to support 30 families ($ 3,260/boat) and 10 nets to support 5 families (total cost $ 19,560).

Supply Clean Water.

  • Built fresh water supply to 11 schools in Muskeliya in Up-Country.
  • Nallathanneer TMV & Gouruvilla TMV have been completed (cost $ 8,000).
  • Building water supply to Dikoya TMV in collaboration with Anpuneri Foundation.
  • Received a request to build water and sanitary facilities to Vipulananda TMV (cost $ 2,340).
  • Received requests from many schools for help with running water systems.

Homes for the Estate Workers in Devon, Nuwara Eliya.

IMHO USA partnering with World Vision is planning to build homes in Devon, in the Nuwara Eliya District for families employed in tea estates as tea-pluckers/laborers and are faced with many challenges due to poor income, inadequate healthcare, challenges in education and insufficient access to welfare service. They lack proper housing. Partnering with World Vision IMHO is planning to build 25 houses, and IMHO’s share would be $1755 for each house. Individual toilets will be built by another organization.

Sanitation Project.

  • To-date built 406 Toilets in poor living in the Up-Country
  • Project partnered with World Vision and Rotary Club
  • Built sanitation facilities to 8 Schools (cost $250 – $300)
