Renovation of Rooms and donation of supplies including Fans, Electronic equipment, Mirrors, and Boards to Jaffna Hindu Ladies College. An IMHO USA Project. Feb 27th 2023.

Prof. Yaso Natkunam MD, Ph.D. Professor of Hematopathology Stanford University California, and Board Member IMHO USA recently visited with the members of the very successful community savings program in the estate sector introduced by IMHO USA in 2017. Started with little seed money and active participation by the members has become very resourceful during the COVID, and the economic crisis.

Vocational center was opened in Maskeliya.

A vocational center was opened in Maskeliya on the 16th of July 2022. Currently 50 women are being trained in sewing, all training is free for the recipients and it will be fully supported by IMHO USA. Plans are to provide training courses in other vocational skills as well. July 16th 2022.

Extending the home gardening program in the upcountry.

Extending the home gardening program in the upcountry. Gouravilla Estate on 26th instant was issued vegetable seeds to 392 families to do their home garden. The Management came forward to assist them in every aspect such as making beds and upkeep, application of green manure at the appropriate time. The beneficiaries will use the vegetables for their home use and the balance will be sent to the market which will be of great financial help for them. IMHO USA has contributed around 2000 USD for this Home Garden Project. July 26th 2022.

Vocational training program Maskeliya.

Vocational training program Maskeliya. 25 ladies participated in Tailoring class. An IMHO USA project. The program started about a month back. It is amazing what they are making in a very short time. Is it the attitude, or the aptitude, it does not matter, they are reaching the altitude. July 1st 2022.

Fishing boats to 89 families.

Fishing boats to 89 families in the Kanchikudiyaru Village Thirukovil, Amparai District funded by Anpuneri implemented by IMHO USA and assisted by Mr. Henry Amalraj of Asst. RR. April 2022.

Giving every citizen equal access to develop themselves.

IMHO USA renovated a building into a library “Bharathy Reading Hut” in Gangawatte Maskeliya about 8 weeks back and provided about 400 books, and newspapers. It is truly heartwarming to see the library is in full use with around 30 students a day and an equal number of adults coming in to read the newspapers, giving every citizen equal access to develop themselves. Jan. 4th. 2022.

Women Empowerment Program: Women Saving Group.

  • Created saving groups in 2016 for women in the Up-Country.
  • To-date 881 women members have created 60 groups.
  • They have saved Rs 6,009,900 ($ 32,662) to date.
  • Opened their first store in March 2019.
  • This store is self sufficient – made profit of Rs 2,399,735 ($12,972) in 2019.

Encouraging Upcountry Families to Have Their Own Home Garden.

Encouraging upcountry families to have their own home garden and grow vegetables by providing seeds and farming equipment. The seedlings are being distributed to preschool teachers so they and their student’s families will have fresh vegetables. The upcountry soil is very fertile and is being made use of. An IMHO USA Project in the Maskeliya Area. March 2nd. 2021

New Arrow Center -An Empowerment Project.

  • The center received one acre land to build facility to house a weaving mill that is expected to employ 150 women.
  • Each women is expected to earn Rs 1000/day.
  • Located in the Northern Province.

To improve the income of Kanchikudicharu Fishermen families.

To improve the income of Kanchikudicharu Fishermen families 50,000 Fingerlings dropped into Kanchikudicharu Tank today, Thirukkovil Divisional Secretary was the Chief Guest for this function. Assist RR thanking ANPUNERI-USA for funding this project, and IMHO- USA for coordinating this project.

Our special Thanks to D.S , ADS and staffs for their participation, and provincial Director of Fisheries Mr. Suthakaran for the fast arrangements to implement this project. Nov. 2020.

Parankiyamadu Village Project.

Parankiyamadu Village in Kiran DS Division, Batticaloa District. It was a fishing village with 155 families needing total support. IMHO USA funded for 23 houses, 2 boats and repair of 43 toilets and the project was implemented by Assist RR. One donor family donated towards 17 houses. The houses were handed over to the beneficiaries on 16th of April 2021.

The first village is the Parankiyamadu Village, Vallaichennai in underserved rural area in Eastern Province. This project is expected to support.

Livelihood Project: Fishing Family Support in the Northern and Eastern Sri Lanka: Total 44 boats (One boat/5 families) were given to needy families.

  • 155 Families and 122 of those are fishing families, but they are now working as laborers due to lack of fishing equipment.

This underprivileged community needs the following:

  • 44 Houses at the cost of $1,630/ house – Total $71,720
  • 43 toilets at the cost of $271/toilet – Total $11,653
  • 6 boats to support 30 families, $3,260/ boat and – Total $19,560

Additional equipment and supplies community needs.

Grand Total of this project:     $ 102,933
