Vocational Training for the inmates of Jaffna Prison.

The inauguration of the masonry and plumbing course by Dr. and Mrs. Nithiyananthan marks an important step in expanding vocational training opportunities at Jaffna Prison. The inmates went through a counselling program funded by Manitha Neyam which helped to improve their psychosocial well being and to facilitate their involvement in Vocational Training programs. It’s impressive how these programs, supported by Ratnam Foundation (UK) and IMHO USA, aim to equip inmates with a variety of skills—tailoring, welding, computer courses, and now masonry and plumbing. Each of these skills offering valuable pathways for reintegration into society after release, giving inmates the chance to build a better future for themselves and contribute meaningfully to their communities. This holistic approach to rehabilitation can have a lasting, positive impact, reducing recidivism and fostering personal growth. Feb. 6th. 2025.
