Vanni Floods 2008

The civilians of the Vanni, who have already been displaced due to the escalation of violence in the area, were displaced again in late 2008 during the early morning hours after the sudden surge of flood waters following torrential rain overnight forced them out. The flood waters were overflowing the highway in many places, thus preventing public transport and severely disrupting daily life.
